About The Product
Manganese ore is a naturally occurring mineral, formed out of lava rock. It is extensively used in the production of ferrous manganese and ferroalloys. It is available in India too but we still import it due to the price factor, where the investment opportunity lies. The rock comes in lump form, with the major component being Mn or MnO, along with other minerals in small quantities.
The price of the mineral depends upon the Manganese content in it, which may vary from 20-60%. All the logistics costs remaining the same for all grades, the buyer prefers to buy a higher grade than 40%. International pricing is determined in terms of $ / DMTU (dry metric ton unit), which refers to the manganese content in the particular ore. Even, to calculate import duty, the government has fixed the duty calculation at $ 6.5/DMTU.
Manganese is used to make clear glass, to desulfurize and deoxidize steel in steel production, and to reduce the octane rating in gasoline. It also is used as a black-brown pigment in paint and as a filler in dry cell batteries. Its alloys help stiffen the aluminum in soft-drink cans, according to Chemical.
With our efforts and connections, we have been able to establish supply sources, from where we can get the mineral in terms of $ per MT, instead of DMTU basis, which works out to be more expensive. On the other hand, we got potential and interested buyers willing to purchase if the material was offered to them at Indian ports.
Manganese from Nigeria
Manganese is deposited in the following states in Nigeria; Bauchi, Cross River, Benue, Borno, Adamawa, Kaduna, Kebbi, Katsina, Plateau, and Nasarawa. The demand of Manganese in Nigeria is on the increasing side as it is mostly used in the steel industries because of its physical and chemical properties, and there are also numerous local and international companies in Nigeria that are engaged in the commercial mining of Manganese .
Manganese from Kenya
Manganese deposit occurrences in Kenya are within Kilifi district along the coast, Samburu and Moyale Districts in the Rift Valley and in parts of Isiolo in Eastern Province. Production of this mineral has commenced albeit in a small scale.
